Who’s behind Modernet web design and development?
Modernet was set up by me, Paul Brighton, to provide web design and development services to small to medium-sized companies.
We are based in West Yorkshire, not far from Wakefield and provide a personal service (initial face to face client meeting) if requested by the client to companies within a 30-mile radius although we will take on web design projects from anywhere in the UK or any English language country.
What services do we offer?
We offer custom web design and bespoke WordPress web development services along with WordPress maintenance and content management. Other services include eCommerce websites, WordPress theme and plugin installation and redesigns or optimisation of your existing website.
Why we use WordPress?
WordPress is the most popular content management system (CMS) in use on the web today, it is used by around 60% of all websites that use a CMS. It has a user-friendly admin panel that makes updating content effortless and also comes with some very useful plugins that are free or paid which will add extra functionality to your website.
What plugins do we use regularly?
We only use plugins that are well maintained and updated often. The main plugins we use on most websites are for custom fields, contact forms, eCommerce and SEO. We may use other plugins, paid or free to add some extra functionality but we will ask the client beforehand so they know exactly what is getting added to their website.
See the list below for the main plugins we use with links to their websites:
- Advanced Custom Fields Pro. We use the paid pro version at no extra cost to the client.
- Contact Form 7. A great plugin for creating contact forms.
- Yoast SEO. One of the most popular plugins for WordPress to handle your SEO needs.
- WooCommerce. Our preferred option for online eCommerce stores.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you can’t find the answer your looking for, please contact us and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible
How much do you charge for a website?
This is a hard question to answer, it all depends on how many pages and features you want on your website. Every website we build is bespoke to you so there’s no one price fits all.
How long does it take to build a website?
This depends on the number of pages and functionality you require. We aim to complete small projects in 4-6 weeks, but this will increase for larger websites. You will be provided with a completion date within your proposal and contract.
How do we communicate throughout the website build?
Our preferred method of contact throughout the project will be email but you will also be able to contact us by phone or messenger.
We do request that any changes you want to make to the design or functionality of your website after the project has started are sent via email or our contact form.
What will you need from me?
Initially, we will send you a questionnaire to fill out so we can find out more about you and your business and what styles of website design you like.
Then, to start your project, we will need all the content such as images, text, emails, addresses and phone numbers that you want to be used on the site.
Do I need to pay for the website upfront?
We ask you to pay 50% upfront before we start work on your project and the final 50% just before we upload your website to your hosting server.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We take payments through an online service called Bonsai, they let us take card payments through Stripe or you can pay through PayPal.
Will my website be SEO-friendly?
We don’t offer SEO marketing solutions, but all our websites will be built using on-page SEO techniques and all the sites we build use the Yoast plugin which helps to improve your online presence.
Do you provide website hosting?
We don’t provide website hosting at the moment. We can advise you on what type of hosting plan you should purchase and help you out if needed with the setup process.
How much does hosting cost?
You can purchase hosting plans from around £100 per year that are great for small business websites and blogs and some even include free SSL certificates and domain names. You may need to pay a lot more if your website has lots of visitors, has loads of content or you are running a large online eCommerce store.
Do you do face to face meetings?
You can request an initial face to face meeting at your business if you are located within a 30-mile radius from us. We usually do the initial meetings over the phone or by video conference (Zoom, Google Meet, etc) as this is a home-based business and we are not office-based.
I don’t live in the UK; can you still build a website for me?
We are happy to work with clients from any country as long as the websites are to be built in the English language and the client speaks English.
I already have a website, how easy is it to change it?
Really easy, after the design phase of the project, we will develop your new website on our local server and send you a link to preview it once it is completed. We will then swap your old website for your new one, this process can usually be performed within an hour, so you’ll not be without a website online for long.
Do you provide training to help me use my new website?
Yes, we can provide training, so your employees know how to add or update content to your website. This can be provided in person, for local clients within a 30-mile radius or over screen share software for clients that are further away.
We are also available over email or our contact form if you need any advice on how to perform tasks within the WordPress admin panel.

All websites we build are mobile friendly and will be fully responsive on desktop, laptop, mobile phones, and tablets. They will be tested with popular browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari.
What design tools do you use?
We use Figma for designing all our websites and Photoshop for editing and resizing images. Figma is web-based graphics editing and user interface design app popular with UI/UX designers at the moment. It also includes a feature that allows us to share the designs with you easily so you will be able to let us know if you want any of the design elements changing before we build your website.

I’ve seen a template/theme that I like, can you install and customise it and add the content?
Yes, we can take a template or theme you have seen and install it on a WordPress website. We will then add your content and customise it with your brand colours, logo, and preferred typography.
How does the web design process work?
Initially, we will design the home page and send you a link so you can view it and let us know what you think, we will then do up to three revisions to make sure you are pleased with the design.
Only once you are happy with the home page design, we will then work on the designs of the other pages.
